A few more bald eagles, including two juveniles.

Nothing super special today, these are all cropped heavily and the quality suffers. One of the eagles was on the ground looking for nesting materal. After he left the ground and was flying back to the nest, he has a rather large limb in his talons. You have to look for it but that limb is just a little more in focus than the limbs in background. He's holding the small end. Also, I don't have any idea if this eagle is male or female.

Interestingly, there were two juvenile bald eagles, at least I think they were bald eagles. They sounded like bald eagles, and when I googled it when back home, they look a lot like juvenile bald eagles (although there can be a lot of variation). In the juvenile flying shot, you can see three other birds further up. These were gulls. There were hundreds of gulls having a feeding frenzy. Finally, a photo of what they were going for.

Paddling with the pelicans!

Took the kayak out on lake barkley to one of the islands that birds seem to favor. It was a lot shallower than I expected. Winter pool is 5ft lower than summer pool, and I couldn't find a way to go around the island without bottoming out. Thought I might see an eagle or two, but I only saw one eagle flying across land as I was driving.

This trip is not that far of a drive, and the kayaking is easy. I think I will set a goal to get the kayak over here about once per month or so to see what's out here. I am not sure about boat traffic in the summer but from the ramp to the island is fairly shallow, and the channel is on the other side of the island. I may also check out some of the coves.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun, and I learned a little about pelicans.
