Finally, a trip to Mammoth Cave

I busted my knee/leg up a bit and haven't been able to get out. It was a beautiful fall day, and I just couldn't stay in. Hopefully, I'll be out a lot more.

Interestingly, to me anyway, the two 360 panos are the exact same shot. I just let photoshop stitch them together and it did not want to put the pond in the center. I had to mess with it a little to get the pond where I wanted.

The river is low.

It was generally a rainy weekend. Yesterday it was rainy all day. Today, (Sunday) is very overcast in the morning. I like to go out on the rocks and get a few flowing water shots when the Barren River is this low, and the overcast sky helps out.

Frog lovin'? I don't think so.

Saturday was a rainy overcast day. I decided to make a trip to the pond. Not a lot of frogs in view, but I did manage to get a few shots of these guys.
I think this is family friendly, although putting up some good ole froggie shagging would not be beneath me.
They were in this same motionless position for the entire time I was there. No frog loving going on here - or if it was, I'm really disappointed.

Last time - sunset. This time - sunrise.

You have to question the intelligence of someone who stays out late after dark with the camera on the longest day of the year - only to get up the morning after and paddle across a small lake to be in the proper position for the sunrise!

The unexpected: Fireflies (or LIghtning Bugs in these parts)!

Hiked to a location on the Green River Bluffs Trail in Mammoth Cave NP. Was going to try to get star trails over the river. I got a few. It never got really dark though. There is just too much light from nearby towns. I also had a surprising amount of lightning bug action. They were everywhere. They are mostly out of focus, but the yellow dots and streaks are those guys.
I have no idea why, but they were crawling all over the camera. Not the nearby fence, not the big metal box the webcam is housed in, not the bench that is nearby, and not me. But they liked the camera. Go figure.
This last photo is a combination of 6 one minute shots. The advantage of this method is that the sky does not wash out. Notice the much greater number of stars. I have never tried this before - I will be trying this again with more photos for the stack.

The top photo is a stacking of these two bottom photos. Just playing around.

My favorite spot. Went for the dogwoods.

Went for the dogwoods, but none this time. Oh there are dogwoods, and they are in full bloom, and beautiful. But, alas, none of the photos of the dogwoods jumped out at me.

An evening at Shanty Hollow.

Took my niece over to Shanty Hollow to catch the sunset (which we missed), and to take a few star trail shots.

Another trip to the cemetery!

It's been way too long since I have been out with the camera. I went to the cemetery to get some dogwood shots. They were not great, and weren't fully in bloom yet anyway.
